All year we wish for what we want in life. On Thanksgiving we give thanks for what we have. Over the winter holidays we enjoy receiving the gifts bestowed upon us. Is that enough?
For 365 days we think about what we WANT in life. And those of us with Infertility are focused on our deepest desire, to build our family. This fact makes our journey a one way street, without the chance of enjoying the view around us. It can be difficult to shift gears and set our mind to giving thanks for what we have.
Here is one strategy to change our thought process: Keep it simple.
- I am thankful I woke up today
- I am thankful I can eat what I need
- I am thankful I have a home
- I am thankful I feel loved
- I am thankful when someone smiles at me, etc.
You can pick one thing, two things, ten things, as long as you remember to pick something and focus on that throughout the day. You may even find it feels good to feel grateful. Perhaps your New Year’s Resolution will be to think of something you are thankful for every day, to keep your wishes company.
Personally, I am thankful for my past pain and my joy. They have led me to the family I was meant to have, Fertility Within Reach and you.
From my grateful heart, I wish you the very best holiday possible,
