Dear NEFS Members,
It was wonderful to see many of you at the NEFS meeting. For those who do not know me, my name is Davina Fankhauser, I am a member of NEFS and President of Fertility Within Reach, a nonprofit organization helping patients gain access to infertility insurance benefits by coaching patients and professionals to be effective advocates.
The easiest way to advocate for infertility health benefits is by voting and supporting a political candidate who will be a champion for infertility and benefits.
On Tuesday, October 15 there is a special election to fill Ed Markey’s Congressional seat (5th district). From my experience lobbying at the State House, I know most of the candidates running. There are two candidates I know to be pro infertility treatment. I encourage you to contact the candidates headquarters and ask their position on infertility health benefits for all.
What matters most is you become an educated voter and understand the next MA Congressman/woman can be a champion for infertility and access to benefits: something important to patients, businesses and ART research.
Fertility Within Reach is working with Senator Ed Markey’s office to create a Congressional Caucus on Infertility. The election on October 15th will either elect a candidate who will gladly serve in that caucus or not. You can help determine the outcome. I don’t live in the 5th district so I can’t vote for a candidate, however I show my support in others ways. I hope you will find a way to be involved. If you live in the district*, but won’t be able to vote because you are attending ASRM, you can fill out an absentee ballot. If you need an absentee ballot you can either follow the hyperlink.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
